jAlbum is $59 once or $4.49 a month: buy the license or pay for the hosting?

Buy the license if you already have somewhere to publish your galleries. Choose an account with hosting if you need that space as well. The $4.49 figure is Premium's monthly equivalent on a one-year term; a one-month term costs $5.29. Neither Premium nor the $59 Standard license covers commercial use.

jAlbum turns folders of photos and videos into web galleries on Windows, Mac or Linux. A skin is the gallery's design theme. You choose one, build the album on your computer, then upload it to your own site or yourname.jalbum.net. A business portfolio needs Pro licensing even if it sells nothing: jAlbum includes promoting a company in its definition of commercial use.

A license buys the software, not server space

Standard and Pro include 12 months of updates and priority email support. You can keep using the version your license covers after that year ends. Large galleries still depend on your computer's memory; “unlimited” describes the license, not its processing capacity.

The Standard order page currently has renewal of the Support and Update plan selected, advertising a 50% discount after 12 months. Check that option before paying if you only want the original purchase. The public pricing page asks existing owners to sign in for renewal details; the discount alone does not establish your renewal charge. A few third-party skins also require a separate license.

Hosting accounts include a license while active

All three include software upgrades and priority email support while active. Premium can connect two of your own domains; Power and Super can connect all of them. Storage can be in Europe or the US. Count the files you will upload rather than your camera's entire archive: jAlbum's photo-count estimates depend on file size, and videos use the same space.

These US dollar prices were checked on 9 October 2026. On 10 October the site displayed regional yen prices from Japan: Standard ¥10,618 and Pro ¥21,416. Check the currency, tax, total due and renewal settings in your own order. The longer-term figures above are monthly equivalents, not a promise that you can pay month by month.

Two years, side by side

Premium's one-year equivalent is $4.49 × 12 = $53.88; its two-year total is $3.59 × 24 = $86.16. Standard stays at $59 if you keep the covered version and do not renew support and updates. For a family gallery on hosting you already pay for, Standard has the lower two-year software cost. If you need new hosting just for the gallery, add its full two-year bill before comparing it with Premium. Also check that the site lets you upload the generated album files; owning a domain alone is not enough.

For a business, compare Pro's $119 with Power's $11.89 × 12 = $142.68 for one year, or $9.49 × 24 = $227.76 for two. Power buys 100 GB of hosting and ongoing upgrades as well as permission to use the software commercially.

What happens when an account expires?

A trial account offers 10 GB for 30 days. The FAQ says trial albums are retained for another 30 days after expiry, then removed. Separately, jAlbum advertises a full refund within 30 days of purchase.

An account's included license is valid while that account is active. The FAQ says an expired Premium or Power account cannot display albums or publish new ones, although albums are not deleted immediately. The terms, section 12.3, allow removal after 30 days from an email notice if the unpaid account is not extended or its content removed. That window does not keep galleries accessible. Renew before expiry if clients or family still need the links.

Which one to buy

Try Free with up to 24 items before paying. For a small non-commercial gallery within those limits, you may not need a paid license. If you just need to send a few photos, a gallery builder and hosting account may be more than the task calls for.

For a larger gallery on your existing hosting, choose Standard for personal use or Pro for work. Without hosting, choose Premium for personal albums or Power for commercial ones. Super becomes relevant when the files you need online exceed 100 GB; check the gallery design and upload size before committing to a longer term.
