Can you build a monthly SEO report from free Search Console data alone?

Summary

For one site's clicks, impressions and queries, yes: the Search Console interface, its API and the daily BigQuery export cover a monthly report without a software bill. Each route drops something, though. The API returns only the top rows, not every row, and the bulk export starts on the day you set it up. Paying starts to make sense when reports go out under your own brand to clients, or when rankings and backlinks have to sit next to the Search Console numbers.

Three ways to get the data out

RouteWhat you getCatch
Performance report in Search ConsoleClicks and impressions, three months by defaultThe newest hours are preliminary and can change
Search Analytics APIUp to 25,000 rows per request (1,000 by default), paged with startRow"Does not guarantee to return all data rows but rather top ones," sorted by clicks
Bulk export to BigQueryEverything except anonymized queries, exported dailyNo backfill; needs a Google Cloud project with billing

The API caveat matters most for long-tail queries. Rows come back sorted by clicks, so a query with a handful of impressions is the likeliest to fall off the end.

The bulk export has its own timing quirk. The first export lands up to 48 hours after setup and contains that day's data only. Google's help page says that for anything earlier you have to go back to the API or the reports. A year-over-year view built purely on the export is possible only a year after you switch it on. BigQuery storage and queries are free up to a usage level and billed above it.

What a reporting product adds

AgencyAnalytics charges $20 per client per month on annual billing. That covers unlimited reports and dashboards, unlimited staff and client users, 85+ integrations, and features such as:

  • scheduled delivery, report approvals and roll-up reports across clients
  • trend forecasting, benchmarks and anomaly detection
  • your own logo, colors, custom domain and custom email

Rank tracking is an add-on at $41.67 a month per 500 keywords, billed annually, and the add-on card says rankings update weekly. The AI Tracker add-on is $20.83 a month per 250 credits, but the page doesn't define a credit. Annual plans carry a one-year commitment, and there's a 14-day trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Reporting inside an SEO suite

Ahrefs reserves its Looker Studio integration for Advanced ($449 a month) and up. Its own Report Builder allows five reports on Lite and Standard and 15 on Advanced, and a $99 monthly add-on raises that to 50 and adds scheduling. Semrush charges $20 a month for the Pro Report add-on with branding and white-labeling, or $10 for the Base Report.
