Can the Semrush SEO plan show where a competitor's traffic comes from, or do you need Traffic & Market?

Verified 28 September 2026 · SaaS COMPASS

Summary

You need Traffic & Market. Every paid plan, the $139 SEO plan included, shows which keywords a competitor ranks for and which sites link to it. The channel breakdown of a competitor's traffic, from organic and paid search to social, referral, email, and AI assistants, comes from Traffic Analytics, which belongs to the separately sold Traffic & Market Toolkit at $289 a month per user. The Semrush One plans from Starter up do not include it either.

What the SEO Toolkit already gives you

Domain Overview, Organic Rankings (previously called Organic Research), and Backlinks are all SEO Toolkit tools. Domain Overview assembles its snapshot from four sources: Organic Rankings, Advertising Research, Backlinks, and AI Visibility. Traffic Analytics is not one of them, so the overview you get on an SEO plan is built from search and link data.

The limits scale with the SEO Toolkit tier inside each plan (Starter includes Pro, Pro+ includes Guru, Advanced includes Business):

  • Requests per day in Organic Rankings and Backlinks: 3,000, 5,000, and 10,000.
  • Results per report: 10,000, 30,000, and 50,000 rows.
  • Historical data: Guru and Business only.

For competitor work, the historical-data line is the one that separates the plans. Looking back at how a rival's rankings grew over the past year, in Organic Rankings or Domain Overview, needs Pro+ or Advanced, as do Domain Overview's Growth and Compare by Countries reports. Backlink data refreshes every 15 minutes on every tier.

What Traffic & Market adds, and its price

The toolkit contains Traffic Analytics, a traffic distribution report covering AI traffic, organic search, paid search, paid social, organic social, referral, email, and display ads, plus Top Pages, Market Overview, and Competitor Monitoring. It comes in three versions:

  • Free, which shows data for sample domains only.
  • Pro, $289 a month for one user seat and up to 3,000 requests a day. A seven-day free trial is offered.
  • Custom, team pricing by quote, with API access.

Adding it up for one analyst or two

One analyst on the SEO plan plus Traffic & Market pays $139 + $289 = $428 a month. The same analyst on Pro+, for the historical data, pays $299 + $289 = $588 a month, or $7,056 over a year of monthly billing.

A second analyst who also needs traffic data is billed separately for each toolkit. Additional Traffic & Market users start at $289 a month, and the SEO Toolkit seat starts at $45. Two people on the SEO plan with Traffic & Market therefore cost at least $139 + $45 + $289 + $289 = $762 a month. How the SEO seat price climbs with each plan is covered in our guide to how many people Semrush's $139 covers.
