Which Squarespace plan makes sense once you start selling?

Verified 28 September 2026 · SaaS COMPASS

Summary

For physical products or services, Core. Basic, at $19 a month on annual billing, charges a 2% transaction fee on online store sales, and Core at $29 drops it to zero, so Core is cheaper once you sell more than $6,000 a year. For memberships, courses, and other paywalled content, the fee keeps falling on every tier (7%, 5%, 1%, 0%), and Plus at $49 starts to make sense once that content brings in about $6,000 a year.

The four plans at a glance

Annual billing, then monthly: Basic $19 or $25, Core $29 or $39, Plus $49 or $65, Advanced $99 or $139. Every plan can sell unlimited physical products, services, and digital products, and every plan can send invoices for free. The differences that cost money are the fees on each sale.

If you sell products or services

Basic adds 2% to every online store sale, including services and donations. Core, Plus, and Advanced charge 0%. On annual billing, Core costs $120 a year more than Basic, and 2% of $6,000 is $120. Past $500 a month in store sales, Basic is the expensive plan. On monthly billing the gap is $14 a month, so the line moves to $700 in monthly sales.

Above Core, the savings come from card processing through Squarespace Payments. Rates start at 2.9% plus $0.30 on Basic and Core, 2.7% on Plus, and 2.5% on Advanced. Plus costs $240 a year more than Core, so that 0.2-point cut only covers the difference at around $120,000 a year in card sales. Advanced costs another $600 a year over Plus and needs about $300,000 in card sales to break even on rates alone.

Core is also where the selling tools show up:

  • Shipping labels and real-time carrier rates
  • Automatic sales tax at 0.15% per transaction, capped at $0.99 (0.10% on Plus, 0.05% on Advanced)
  • Sales funnel analytics and API integrations
  • CSS and JavaScript customization, plus unlimited contributors instead of Basic's two

If you sell memberships or courses

Here the fee changes on every plan: 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus, 0% on Advanced. Someone selling $1,000 a month in memberships pays $70 a month in fees on Basic, $50 on Core, and $10 on Plus.

The four-point drop from Core to Plus saves $240 a year once membership sales reach $6,000 a year, which is exactly the price difference. Advanced's last point needs $60,000 a year in membership sales to cover its extra $600.

What the plan price doesn't include

Annual plans come with one year of free custom domain registration, and Core and above include one Google Workspace email account free for the first year. Both renew at standard rates after that; our domain and email guides have the renewal math. Appointment booking isn't listed on any website plan. It runs on Acuity Scheduling, which Squarespace owns and sells separately, starting at $16 a month billed annually.
