How much does a branded email address cost through Squarespace?
Summary
If you only need one mailbox and you're in the US, UK, Australia, or Canada, Essential Email by Titan is $3 a month. Google Workspace through Squarespace starts at $84 per user per year on Starter, or $8.40 a month. Sites on Core or higher get one Starter seat free for the first year. Forwarding up to 100 addresses to an inbox you already have costs nothing.
Forwarding, Essential Email, or Workspace
A Squarespace domain doesn't include a mailbox. It does include forwarding for up to 100 aliases, so hello@yourdomain.com can land in the Gmail or Outlook account you already use, at no charge.
For a real inbox on your domain, you pick one of two paid services. You can't run both on the same domain.
Essential Email by Titan is the budget option: one plan, Basic, at $3 a month, billed monthly only. It gives you one email account per domain with 10 GB of storage and up to 10 aliases, and it caps sending at 300 to 500 messages a day. It's only sold in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, the domain must be registered with Squarespace and left on Squarespace's default nameservers, and third-party or resold domains don't qualify.
Google Workspace is Gmail plus Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Meet, sold per user:

The free Workspace seat
Squarespace gives one free year of Workspace Starter to sites on Core, Plus, or Advanced, as well as the older Business, Commerce Basic, and Commerce Advanced plans. You have to sign up within a year of starting or upgrading to one of those plans. Basic sites can buy Workspace but don't get the free seat.
The offer covers one user on Starter. Everyone else pays the full rate from the start, and the free seat renews at the standard price after twelve months. If the site bills monthly, auto-renew has to stay on, and turning off Workspace auto-renew during the free year gets the account suspended at the end of the next billing cycle.
Three scenarios
A consultant working alone in the US. Essential Email costs $36 a year. Workspace Starter is $84 at list price, or free in year one if the site is on Core. From year two on, Titan is $48 a year cheaper.
A three-person team on Core, all on Starter, billed annually. Year one is $168 (two paid seats; the third is free). Year two is $252.
The same team on Standard. Standard isn't covered by the free offer, so it's $504 from the first year.
Once you sign up through Squarespace you can't downgrade the Workspace plan or switch between monthly and annual billing, so the plan you start on sets the bill for later years too. Users added partway through a cycle are charged a prorated amount right away, and every user then renews on the same date.
When a subscription ends
Titan subscriptions aren't refunded. When one expires, the mailbox goes away immediately and the email, contacts, and calendar data are deleted after 30 days. If you cancel or transfer the domain but keep Essential Email, Squarespace keeps billing for it even though mail can no longer be sent or received.
Workspace behaves differently. If auto-renew is off, email is suspended at the end of the billing cycle, and after 40 days the account is disconnected from your site and handed over to Google.
