How much do desk phones and headsets add to a business phone setup?
Summary
Only as much as the desks that get a physical phone, since cloud systems run on the mobile and desktop apps. On Ooma's business store, IP desk phones start at $79.99, a conference phone is $599.99, and an adapter for analog phones or fax machines is $69.99. Verizon sells the Yealink T33G for its Business Digital Voice service at $85, or free with a Fios internet bundle on a two-year contract. Neither store sells headsets.
Pricing out a ten-person office
Take ten users on Ooma Office and three ways to equip them:
- Phone only at the front desk and a conference phone in the meeting room: one Yealink T31W ($79.99) and one Yealink CP925 ($599.99), $679.98.
- A basic desk phone for everyone: ten T31Ws, $799.90. Ooma also sells the T31W in a buy-one-get-one two-pack at $79.99 (regularly $159.98), which halves that if the deal is running.
- Keeping an old fax line or analog handsets: a Grandstream HT812 two-port adapter, $69.99, or the HT814 at $119.99.
Phones are sold only with Ooma Office service, and every device has a 30-day return window.
The rest of Ooma's lineup
Between the cheapest and most expensive phones there's a wide spread: Yealink T34W $119.99, Grandstream GRP2613 $99.99, Grandstream GRP2624 $129.99, Yealink T73W $189.99, Grandstream WP825 cordless $199.99, Yealink T85W $299.99, and at the top the Yealink T88W Pro, with a 7-inch touchscreen and a wireless handset, at $589.99.
Verizon's price list
Verizon lists four Yealink phones and an analog converter for Business Digital Voice, all plus tax:
- T33G, up to 4 lines: $85, or free with a Fios Business Internet bundle on a two-year agreement.
- W76P cordless, 10-line base: $150; extra handsets $85 each.
- T53WB, up to 12 lines: $150.
- T54WB, up to 16 lines: $200.
- AudioCodes 2-port analog converter: $85.
With the same Fios bundle, the first phone of any model is $85 off. The lines themselves are $20 a month each with Fios or $35 without, on a two-year contract.
Renting instead
RingCentral's pricing page says phone rental is available only with a multi-year contract. On a shorter term, rental is not offered.
Headsets
They aren't in either catalog. Some Ooma phone listings mention an electronic hook switch for headsets, so the phones expect one, but the headset itself is a separate purchase. For people who take calls at a computer, a headset on its own can stand in for a desk phone.
