How do you compare an 8x8 quote when 8x8 won't publish a price?
Summary
Start with the license tier the quote is built on. 8x8's pricing page shows no dollar figure for any product, so every price comes from a sales quote, and the X-series license on that quote decides how far unlimited calling reaches: one country on X1, up to 48 on X4 through X8. Two quotes with the same seat count can bill calls very differently.
What the pricing page shows
"Pricing and packages" lists five products: Contact Center, 8x8 Engage, Communications APIs, 8x8 Work, and 8x8 for Microsoft Teams. There is no price on the page. Each product offers "Chat with Sales" and "Request a Quote," except the Teams option, which has only "Request a Quote." The business phone product page has a "View Pricing" button that leads back to the same page.
Unlimited calling by license
8x8's support site lists the calling zones:
- X1: domestic calls in the one country tied to the license (UK, Ireland, US, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand).
- X1 Nationwide, available since November 1, 2022: the same one-country domestic calling, with France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain added to the list of eligible countries.
- X2: 14 countries.
- X3: 32 countries.
- X4 through X8: 48 countries.
The country that counts on X1 is where the customer is based. A US company with a UK number gets unlimited calling within the US. X1 licenses for different zones can't be mixed on one system.
The exceptions inside "unlimited"
Countries marked with an asterisk exclude calls to mobile numbers. In the X2 list, ten of the fourteen carry the asterisk; only the US, Canada, the UK, and Puerto Rico include mobiles. Even on X4 to X8, mobile calls to Japan, Italy, Poland, and several other countries are metered.
Premium-rate, special-service, and out-of-zone numbers are billed at 8x8's rates. Inbound calls to 8x8 toll-free numbers are metered too.
Contact center licenses (X6 to X8) share a pooled allowance of 4,000 inbound and outbound minutes per user per month, with extra minutes at standard rates. Unmetered calling is described as applying to business telephony users on X1 to X4, subject to 8x8's fair-use policy.
Reading a quote against published prices
Check three things before putting an 8x8 quote next to a provider with list prices: the license name, whether the countries you call most carry the mobile asterisk, and how much toll-free traffic you receive. The product page for 8x8 Work cites native phone service in more than 50 countries and a 99.999% uptime SLA, so the comparison matters most for companies calling across borders.
