How much does business texting cost per message?

Summary

Once you pass the texts included in the plan, a message costs $0.0085 at RingCentral and $0.0095 at Ooma Office. Those are the only two of twelve providers that print an overage rate. The rest either call texting unlimited under a fair-use policy or do not say what the next text costs.

What is included is counted in different units. RingCentral gives 25 texts a user a month on Core and 100 on Advanced; Nextiva 100, 500 and unlimited by plan, also per user. Ooma counts per account (250 on Pro, 1,000 on Pro Plus, inbound and outbound both count), and so does Talkroute (500, 2,000, 5,000). JustCall counts 500 or 1,000 "segments" a user.

Unlimited: Quo, Google Voice, Vonage and Phone.com's Plus and Pro. Phone.com Basic has no texting at all.

Registration is a separate bill. RingCentral passes through $19 for the brand, $15 to vet each campaign and $1.50 a month (or $10 for standard volume); Quo charges $19.50 once and $1.50 to $3 a month; Talkroute $19 or $15 once depending on plan and $1.50 a month on Basic.

A five-person team sending and receiving 2,000 texts a month pays about $17.44 for texting on RingCentral Core, $16.63 on Ooma Office Pro, and only the monthly registration fee on Quo.

What each plan includes, and what the next text costs

Texts included, the price of one more, and the registration fees each provider prints, read from pricing pages (RingCentral's from its support page on TCR fees, Ooma's from its rates page) on October 5, 2026. “Not published” means the page does not say.

The unit decides more than the rate does. A per-user allowance grows with the team, so five people on RingCentral Core have 125 texts between them and five on Nextiva Core have 500. A per-account allowance does not grow: Ooma Office Pro's 250 texts are 250 whether one person or twenty share the account, and Ooma counts every direction, including internal messages and ones you delete. JustCall's segments are the 160-character pieces a long text is split into, so a two-segment message uses two.

Aircall's page disagrees with itself. The comparison table lists US texting as "contact us for rates", while the footnote under it says every license includes unlimited inbound texts and 4,000 outbound a user a month. Both are reproduced here as printed.

500, 2,000 and 10,000 texts a month for a five-person team

The texting part of the bill for a 5-person team, by total texts sent and received in a month: messages over the allowance times the printed per-message rate, plus the monthly campaign fee where one is printed. One-time registration fees and the plan itself are not included. “Not published” means the volume passes the allowance and the provider prints no overage rate. Calculated, not quoted.

Only plans that print both an allowance and an overage rate produce a figure past the allowance, which is why Nextiva, Talkroute and JustCall show "not published" at the higher volumes while Ooma and RingCentral show dollars. RingCentral's low-volume campaign ($1.50 a month) covers anything under 6,000 messages a day, so 10,000 a month still qualifies. Ooma's registration fees are not on its rates page and are left out of its rows; whatever they are, they come on top.

The one-time fees are also left out. Add $34 for RingCentral ($19 brand plus $15 campaign), $19.50 for Quo, and $19 or $15 for Talkroute to the first month, and $15 again at RingCentral each time a campaign is resubmitted. Do you need to register before texting customers from a business number? explains what those fees pay for and what happens to texts sent from an unregistered number.

Automated and high-volume texts are priced separately

Conversational texting, one person typing to one customer, is what the allowances above cover. Appointment reminders, order updates and anything a system sends for you are billed differently. Quo charges $0.01 for each outgoing text sent through its API, Zapier or Make, on top of the unlimited conversational texting. RingCentral sells High Volume SMS from $0.0119 a message sent or received, and separately a $25 Business SMS Booster for a shared inbox and templates. Talkroute moves bulk senders to its Bulk Texting plans, from $55 a month. If reminders are most of your volume, those are the rates to compare, not the overage column.
